Why are shading nets used in sea cucumber farming?
Sea cucumbers are highly sensitive to water temperature. In summer, high temperatures cause them to enter aestivation, and prolonged heat can lead to mass mortality. Installing shade nets can lower pond water temperature by 3-5°C, delaying aestivation and advancing autumn activity, extending the growth period by nearly one month. Shade nets also inhibit harmful algae and improve bottom conditions, significantly increasing survival rates. Therefore, shade nets are a key measure for sea cucumber farming in summer.
