On that particular hunting trip, our quarry consisted of wild rabbits and pheasants. To be honest, I didn't have high expectations for a mere camouflage net at first—that is, until I actually put it to use and truly understood the meaning of "hiding right under the enemy's nose." Just as dawn was breaking, I selected a spot along the edge of a thicket—a natural corridor frequently traversed by rabbits and pheasants.
I spread out the camouflage net, kept it low to the ground, and secured its perimeter with a few branches; I then tucked in some dry grass and fern fronds gathered from the immediate surroundings. Crouching inside, I was completely invisible from the outside—to any observer, it appeared to be nothing more than an inconspicuous pile of tangled brush. About half an hour later, a wild rabbit poked its head out from the grass on my left. It pricked up its ears, swiveling them left and right as its bright, dark eyes swept across my position—it paused for a moment, then looked away. It hadn't spotted me.
Reassured, the rabbit hopped forward a few paces to nibble on the tender grass growing there, coming to within a mere ten meters of where I crouched. I held my breath, becoming cautious even in the simple act of blinking. Not long after, two pheasants emerged from the slope to my right; they walked along, pecking at the ground and clucking softly. They, too, failed to notice the two pairs of focused eyes watching them from behind the camouflage net.
In that moment, I suddenly grasped the true meaning of "invisibility"—it is not about physically vanishing, but rather about transforming oneself into an integral part of the environment. When it comes to hunting, patience and camouflage are often far more critical than marksmanship. And that camouflage net served as the very bridge that transformed patience into opportunity.
